Christmas Bus, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany

Words of the photographer below :
"Who ever will come to the business of Käthe Wohlfahrt in Rothenburg ob der Tauber (Germany, Bavaria) during the summer might feel strange. The shop is a huge Christmas village and offers Christmas items all the year.
In front of the shop stands the nostalgic Christmas bus fully loaded with gifts. The colorful vintage vehicle is a popular photographic model for people from all over the world! "

The darker days during Arctic winter

Words below are of the original photographer:
"An ice sheet is a mass of glacier ice that covers surrounding terrain and is greater than 50,000 km² 20,000 mile² thus also known as continental glacier. The only current ice sheets are in Antarctica and Greenland. Ice sheets are bigger than ice shelves or alpine glaciers. Masses of ice covering less than 50,000 km2 are termed an ice cap. An ice cap will typically feed a series of glaciers. The Greenland, and probably the Antarctic, ice sheets have been losing mass recently. However, loss of mass on the Antarctic sheet may continue, if there is sufficient loss to outlet glaciers. By today's recent observations the vulnerability of the ice sheets to warming could increase future sea level rise. But our understanding of these processes is still very limited and there is no consensus on their magnitude. More research work is therefore required in order to improve the reliability of predictions of ice-sheet response on global warming. According to a study at the University of Minnesota. Robert Johnson, an adjunct professor of geology and geophysics Global warming may actually assist new ice sheet growth because growth depends less on cold temperatures than on a strong supply of moisture and very heavy snowfall over northern land masses. He published his arguments in a book, Secrets of the Ice Ages.

Photo of a ice cap at the IJsselmeer (IJmeer) near Amsterdam. The lake is frozen and fresh snow fallen recently. I feel like Roald Amundsen on one of his Polar treks to the North pole. The sounds of fresh snow rustle under my shoes and a little Cessna airplane just flying over. Must have been an exciting flight for them over this beautiful ice sheet. In the distance you can see the lighthouse of Marken. The ice is a bit unsafe to walk the 10km. The is the Marken lighthouse, given its name due to its shape ('paard' means 'horse' in dutch). The original was built in 1700, then reconstructed on top of the early foundations in 1839. It's still in use today."

Tall Tree, Small Moon

Tall Tree, Small Moon, originally uploaded by pixelmama.

Here is how the photographer described his photo :
"I already had this image picked out for HCS when I realized I had forgotten to look at the theme!!! DOH!! So I did a search on "33+Trees" and found this on Wikipedia: "Evaluating the danger a tree presents is based on a process called the Quantified Tree Risk Assessment.[33]" -- So there you go! The magical "33" as a footnote! I assessed the risk of this tall tree, it seemed unstable so I grabbed my shot and got the hell out of there as fast as I could!!

TRF: Have you ever heard the story about the dude that brought a knife to a gun fight? I sorta do the same thing with my lenses! I arrive at the park full of warm morning sunshine kissing the treetops. And what have I done? I've brought my 'prime lens' to a 'wide angle' fight! So what do I do? Take three landscape photos and merge them! The "knife" weilder must be resourceful to win in a 'gunfight!'

The photographer says:
"I took this towards the start of the day when the light was lower and not quite as good as later on but Im still really pleased with it. Strangely the birds only seemed to use this perch the once, Im not sure if something was moved to stop it becoming a good perch, but I feel I might have got a pretty unique pose here compared to the others. It's also a break from the norm when it comes to how I would compose the bird in the frame."

Coconut Island - The Morning Crow [ explored ]

Behind Story ( the photographer words) :
It was not a panning shot, the crow was sitting on the dock at St. Martin's Island, Chittagong. I focused it, I pressed the shutter and before my 1000D could close the shutter, it flew away... One of those shots when you can't really realize what you have taken until you press the review button and see the photo in that tiny 2.5inch LCD...

Red-eared slider, originally uploaded by v4vodka.

note below from the photographer of this nice red eared turtle :
"When I came to US I was stunned with the number and variety of turtles that you can find practically around every pond or river. In Poland, we have only one turtle species but it's extremely rare and endangered. I wanted to take a nice shot of turtle but they were always down in water or resting in places difficult to approach. So when I spotted this guy just on grass next to the pond I could not resist to take some pictures. He was such a great model!"

"For sure, if the army had Ferrari 458 Italia, it would provoke certain vocations.

But I do not think that it is the purpose searched by preparatory German, Cam Shaft, but it gives desire all the same.

They will say that Cam Shaft is specialist of auto panty hoses in vinyl to be adapted on cars and there, they made a big work on Ferrari 458 Italia. Not so badly, no?"

Long Eared Owl

Long Eared Owl, originally uploaded by copeg.

The Long-eared Owl is a medium sized owl, 31–37 cm (12-15 in) in length with an 86–98 cm (34-39 in) wingspan. It has erect blackish ear-tufts, which are positioned in the center of the head. The ear-tufts are used to make the owl appear larger to other owls while perched. The female is larger in size and darker in coloration than the male. The Long-eared Owl’s brownish feathers are vertically streaked. Tarsus and toes are entirely feathered. Eye disks are also characteristic in this species. However, the eye disks of A. otus are darker in color or rusty-orange. This nocturnal species is perhaps most easily seen perched in a tree in its daytime roost, sometimes in small groups during the winter months.

IMG_0380, originally uploaded by pia.reynolds.

The photographer story about this beautiful photo is :
"I spotted this chap on the verge in my road on the way home from the school run! Straight back out again with camera...then back home to get stuff to kneel on and to rest the camera on :) All the neighbours undoubtedly think I'm a nutter, kneeling with my face on a wet lawn and my bottom in the air :) So...the photo is taken in Surrey, UK, with the EOS7D and a Sigma 105mm macro lens. Ever so slightly desaturated the greens and yellows in PS to allow the amazing 'hat' to stand out. (Oh, and should add that the poor mushroom is no more :( I think he was decapitated by a lawnmower)"

Colorado Plains, originally uploaded by Dan Ballard Photography.

"This shot was taken about 5 minutes from my house. I love skies like this, and this wheat field seemed to be the perfect subject to go with it. There's not much to photograph in my area so the sky becomes even more important then normal. I go take pictures at least 3 to 4 times a week depending on the weather and how the sky looks and try to find something interesting. Really a nice feeling to get something decent from a very un-photogenic place. I really think it helps to train your eye for when your shooting someplace amazing as well." says the photographer of this amazing shot .

Gehry Sheen

Gehry Sheen, originally uploaded by Wolfgang Staudt.

Frank Owen Gehry, CC is a Canadian-American Pritzker Prize-winning architect based in Los Angeles, California.

His buildings, including his private residence, have become tourist attractions and many customers seek Gehry's services as a badge of distinction. His works were by far the most often cited as being among the most important works of contemporary architecture in the 2010 World Architecture Survey, which led Vanity Fair to label him as "the most important architect of our age".

Gehry's best-known works include the titanium-covered Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain; Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles; Experience Music Project in Seattle; Weisman Art Museum in Minneapolis; Dancing House in Prague; the Vitra Design Museum and MARTa Museum in Germany; and the Art Gallery of Ontario in Toronto. But it was his private residence in Santa Monica, California, which jump-started his career, lifting it from the status of "paper architecture" – a phenomenon that many famous architects have experienced in their formative decades through experimentation almost exclusively on paper before receiving their first major commission in later years.

Time to Return

Time to Return, originally uploaded by Mark Southgate.

The photographer of this photo says :
"Went for a walk along the cliffs from Seaham yesterday. We stopped off at the harbour on our way home just as the sun was setting. Bumped into Steve so had a good chat with him. There was a terrific sunset behind me but the light out to sea was fading very fast when I took this. This was my last shot from the day."
